Your Questions Answered: Navigating ICU Care

Here are answers to frequently asked questions to help you understand ICU care at Ruby Hall Clinic:

Q1. What is an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)?

An ICU is a specialised unit providing critical care and life support for acutely ill and injured patients requiring intensive monitoring and treatment.

While there are a variety of factors that can put you at risk for cardiac problems, a good lifestyle can eradicate some of the risks. However, some factors include smoking tobacco, high cholesterol or blood pressure, excess physical exertion or physical inactivity, obesity, or diabetes.

Our ICU is equipped with advanced ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, dialysis machines, and central monitoring systems for continuous observation, alongside cutting-edge technologies like ECMO and CRRT.

Visiting hours are limited to ensure patient rest and maintain sterile conditions. One family member is allowed with the patient for 24 hours for emotional support. Please check with the ICU reception for current timings.

Our ICU consultants or resident doctors provide daily updates during designated hours. For emergency updates, our team will proactively contact you.

Patients receive 24/7 monitoring by intensivists, critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, and a dedicated multidisciplinary support team. We maintain an optimal nursing ratio of 1:2 with well-trained and dedicated nurses.

Yes, informed consent will be obtained from the patient’s family before performing major procedures or surgeries, ensuring full transparency.

Our ICU team will immediately inform the family and explain the treatment plan and possible outcomes with utmost transparency and compassion.

Yes, ICU care is more expensive due to the high level of specialised care, intensive monitoring, and advanced equipment involved. Our financial counsellor can provide guidance regarding daily estimates.

Most insurance policies cover ICU costs. Please consult our billing/insurance department for detailed claim procedures and pre-authorisation assistance.

Our comprehensive support services ensure holistic patient and family well-being, including: physiotherapy for rehabilitation, psychological counselling, dietary counseling with specialised nutritional planning, respiratory therapy, social work services, nursing education, and family counselling on compassionate grounds.

We provide palliative care with compassionate end-of-life care, focusing on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. These sensitive decisions are made respectfully in consultation with the family, ensuring care aligns with the patient’s values and wishes.
